Arrests during prayer meetings
17 Answers
It has been reported that a Email has been circulated around the Greater Manchester Police, that if they have a warrant issued for the arrest of a Muslim, then they are to show sensitivity and not to enter a Mosque to make an arrest during prayer time.
Is this the correct thing to do, or just more pandering towards the Muslim Community?

I mean if someone was wanted for not paying a parking fine then arresting them during prayers would be a bit over the top. But if it was terrorist related or some other serious crime then they shouldn't have to wait in order not offend others. No other religon would be shown the same sensitivity though would they?
In recent years, many police officers have taken the easy route, like turning up at a person's place of work quite unnecessarily to make a minor arrest. A Mosque is fully carpeted and Muslims bend forward with their heads on the floor during prayers. The sole of the shoe is an object of insult to them, particularly when it touches the Mosque carpet. Remember the old man on the news during the invasion of Baghdad? He was paying Saddam the worst insult he could imagine by beating Saddam's portrait with the sole of his shoe. I really don't think the police would remove their shoes to make the arrest. Although I have no time for many of the disputes being made by Muslim activists, this would cause unimaginable trouble with decent Muslims.
Once again you are over sensalizing things a little Dom Tuk no one is suggesting, that the Police go in guns a blazing, but if there is need to make an arrest then why not enter a Mosque, Church, Synagogue or wherever else.
Regarding your point of the police going into the Mosque guns blazing. In this purely hypothetical situation of a group of terroists, holding hostages in fear of their lives, and all peaceful negotiations with them at an end, then would you say that the police would then be in their right, to storm the Mosque guns ablazing?

Consider this, any one who goes into a mosque has to come out. the police have to wait outside and they will do just that, thankfully they have much more sense than the average punter on this site. If the so called terrorists are holed up in there then of course the police can obtain warrants to arrest the culprits and the mosque committee will be more thyan happy to oblige.
same applies to any other religious place of worship

Maximus, Isn't this is what this site is all about, introducing topics for open debate.
Or do you belong to that sensitive minority, who only wish to read posts that agree with their side of the discussion, and wish all others views to be swept under the carpet?
I do believe we still have freedom of speech in this country.

maxximus:- Since the Muslim issue is presently top news worthy, then it is only reasonable to expect that the majority of posts would highlight this fact?. Just as you would expect during the World Cup competions that the majority of football postings would be about the World Cup.
Regarding the fact that the majority of posting are ANTI-MUSLIM, do you not agree that reason for this unfortunately, is their connection with terroism, refusing to intergrate into society, being over sensitive, and their own intolerant nature?
There I suppose I have upset a few once again, but if anyone disagrees with this explanation, I would be interested to know their reasons, but first can they deny that any of my reasons for the Anti prefix are in anyway incorrect?

No pure generalisation. Wearing veils does not eqate terrorism or being over sensitive. Yes the pre-fi is incorrect and as Maximuus suggested a lot of comments on this site has been anti muslim recently. And yes of course by a way of pre-empting your next obvious question insiniuating that I am a muslim or a muslim supporter, a liberal, an anti-semite, a commie a or whatever cr@p some people have come up with on this site I'm neither of them but really getting sick at how far some people will push with their agenda to isolate a group of people from a certain religion.
Just coming away from the Mosque line, what do you make of this story then.

Doggy2 Can't ever remember the gypsies, homosexuals or Jews (not in this country anyway) blowing us up. I am not saying all Muslims are the same, but this is the main reason most people are Anti-Muslim.
It is unfortunate but this is something they must learn to live with. Just as the innocent German , Italian or Japaneese person had to during WW2. Even worse in their case, because they where interned.

I am not defending fanatics whether muslims or some far right fascists around here. But the way things are going at the moment I can see similarities emerging between the treatment of muslims in Europe and the jews in the 30s. It started here in Europe (not the middle east) over 60 years ago. An ideology by generalising it on all the jews, homosexuals and gypsies resulted in those despicable events. Same generalisations is happening in the current climate, which is quite similar to the unfolding events in the history. Haven't we learned anything from history?
