I'm writing a story where the character uses the internet a bit and I'm curious about the legal implications of mentioning things like MSN. Am I allowed to do it? Do I need to have permission? Also, Scrabble. Is it a brand name? Do I need permission for that? What about website addresses? Does anyone have any experience or knowledge that can help?

If scrabble is trademarked you may struggle to use it, however any publisher that you approach will be able to advise you about this. Copywrite is a difficult area, however you need to prove or protect your content, so using MSN chat could be ok, if the other person was aware of it or if you changed the chat slightly and the persons details.
