Family tree 18C

Please can anyone help? Son has to produce a family tree; 18 C, have tried for over a week, on various sites even phoned family in Australia! family name Hussey, nee Cadogan my mother was a Martin her mother a Carr, both sides of family in services with family being born all over the British Empire! Feel like making one up!

Its taken me 2 years to build a tree as far back as 1780-1800 so the chances of you being able to do one quickly is near on impossible.

Have to agree that it takes ages. Taken me just over three years and I'm currently c1750's.

It's not easy and it's not cheap. If your son has got back as far as his great-grandmother then that is four generations, how much more do they want?

For anyone one here to be able to help you will need to give places/years of birth and full names (not of living people though...)

Have you tried www.genesreunited.co.uk you never know, there may be somebody out there who is researching one of your lines. In the last few weeks I have found three distant cousins on genesreunited, one of whom has traced one branch of the family back to 1692.

Having said that, I have been working (on and off) for eight years on my family tree and have been stuck in 1856/7 with my Great Grandfather for the past 5 years, it seems he was into a bit of identity theft as the baby he claimed he was died at 30 minutes old. I have my suspicions but I am still trying to prove who he really was.

Just a thought - is it your sons family tree they want or will anybodys do as I'm sure you'll be able to find some on the web that go back that far.

Just do as far back as you know and pad it out a little. His teacher obviously has no idea what he/she is asking of them. At least if you have 4 or so generations she cannot say he did not try.

yes I've tried genes. I can't get over how large familys used to be, 8 children back in the 1800s was far from unusual

In one line of my tree I've got sets of parents with between 6 and 16 children! They were only farm labourers too so how they managed to support that many children I will never know.

can you imagen all that cooking and washing (or not) I have 2 children washing machine and tumble drier - how did they find the time never mind energy to produce to many?

my daughter had to do this and i told the scool ot was ridiculous when you only have a couple of days to do it in. Most of my relatives are dead and is near on impossible. You can search to see if people are looking for the same people or already have a family tree in that name then you can just copy the info.

I started doing the research in 1979 and over the years it developed into more than a personal hobby and I was able to use the research knowledge to become a tutor in Family History Research Techniques and Source Materials.
Using a computer and the internet it is possible to build a very plausible family tree back to the early 1800s in most cases, but verification of each ancestor can only be done by cross referencing sources and facts.
If you use what info you have, even if you only knew your great grandmother as Granny Smith from Accrington, that will be enough for a school project, I do think the purpose of the exercise is to test a pupil's enquiry skills and ability to make order of factual information.

thanks Dot, the second wks home work is now set; industrial reveloution, factory workers, child labour, etc; much easier; he can investigate this himself,but now I'm hooked on tracing our family history; my side of the family in particular - Welsh, Irish, French, Armenian (can't spell) and as i said earlier born all over the B. Empire, lots of military and railway (India) conections

I've looked for family trees in my married name and maiden name ,no joy! also in Grandfathers etc names can't find tree going back far enough - so have copied another and will change names. What makes me cross is when your child spends hours completing home work (or we do) and it's not marked (ever)- I'm still waiting for my A*

Why do you ot try the Rootsweb web site as it is free. Also the Familysearch Mormon site is also free and can be of use if you have acess to anyones details born before 1881.

Hussey. Something to think about.
When I moved to the West country c 1960, a man with aq strong local accent introduced himself to me as 'Mr Uzzell'.
It was many months before I saw his name written down, as Hussell.
