Cost of a police investigation
Just over 3 years ago, I was arrested on suspicion of ABH as a result of a mistaken identity.
I was interviewed, photographed, and my clothes taken away for forensic testing.
A subsequent VIPER procedure returned negative, as did my clothes, and the case was subsequently dropped.
I filed an unsuccessful attempt to sue the police for unlawful arrest, and following a hour-long conversation with the duty inspector on the day agreed to withdraw my complaint.
To my knowledge, the case involved around 20 officers in total, and around 100 man hours. Taking this into account with the other expenses, is anyone with "insider" knowledge able to estimate the net cost to the taxpayer?
