Sorting out accident claim

I just wondered how long it normally takes to sort out an accident claim ? The guy who hit me has admitted liability and I've now got my car back. I had whiplash and was off work for over a week - the insurance co. said I'd hear from a solicitior. That was 6 weeks ago and I've not heard a thing. Someone told me to keep ringing them and pestering, or it could take forever - is this right or am I just worrying unnecessarily ? It just seems so riduculous that it's taking so long, especially as I'm not injured anymore !

could take a few months, just forget about it and then about easter time you will get a nice little cheque on the doormat
Normans right it will take months to sort out but I would chase it up, usually an examination by a doctor is needed before anything happens. Keep any medical examination reports you should have had by now.

Thanks for all that - its most appreciated. This has never happened to me before, so I have no idea what to expect. I did go to the docs and call NHS direct so there are records of me have an injury. I quite honestly didn't realise I was able to claim anything - the insurance ompany just did it automatically.
You live and learn, plenty of Easter eggs on the way.
I had a similar accident on the 30th September 2006, Had legal assistance with my car insurance, was advised by the Insurance Company to keep all bills and receipts that were due to the acicdent i.e. pain killer tablets, physio treatment etc . Just before christmas had to go and see a doctor on the instructions of my Insurance Companies solicitors (who first contacted me a week after the accident),the doctor will send a report to the Insurance Company. only after this has been done can they start the process of claiming for me, also still having physio so ongoing at the moment, dont expect anything for months sorry but its the usual, they are quick to take our money but slow in paying out, just have to go with the flow as they say. With regards to hearing from the solicitors you should contact the Insurance Company immediately (if you have legal assistance) and insist on the solicitors contacting you as they should be telling you what to do what to say and what to keep (receipts etc) Best of Luck
You're very lucky that you weren't seriously hurt and that you're not injured anymore. I was knocked off a motorbike in a hit and run nearly five years ago, which resulted in several operations and over two years off work To top it all off, I still haven't recieved any compensation.
