I have been accused of hitting a parked car and driving off. I do not remeber doing this, but a witness has given my details and made a statement. The police have then come round (without warning) to get a statment from me, and have said that it will go to court and i may be charged with driving without due care and attention, failure to stop at an accident, and failure to report an accident. Does anyone know what will happen now? This is the first i had heard of going to court. I honestly dont remember hitting a parked car.

is your car damaged?
Get all the details of where it was supposed to happen, how exactly, is there any damage on your car ? Were you driving the car at the time if so were you in the vicinity of the accident ? You may have caught the other car by mistake and not realised - if it's a slight scratch - it might not be apparent at the time that you hit/caught the car- but if there's damage to the other car then surely there would be equal damage to yours ?

All things that need to be asked. Were you read a caution and told that you might not want to say anything etc etc and then a statement taken ?

The police have no say whether it will go to court or not the CPS have the say. You will more than likely be summonsed to appear or asked to attend the police station where you will be questioned and or charged.

Hi, my car is not damaged, but i with the details they gave me about the time of the accident etc my car would have been in that area.

They did indeed say i was under caution etc, and they took a statement. I just said that i didn't remember hitting a car. They said i had damaged the back passenger side wheel arch, and scratched the back passenger side door. But again, there are no scratches on my car.

I'm worried because the woman that interviewed me said i might get a ban. Is this normal???
You would normally remember hitting a parked car....you could, of course, be a victim of cloning: very common in some areas of London now.

You could ask if there's any CCTV evidence, a description of the driver, and go and look around where it allegedly happened and check for cameras.

If you don't recall doing it, just deny it-if it's supposedly going to court (and the coppers can't tell you if it'll go to court or not-it's nothing to do with them!) I'd imagine there'd be a lot of damage to both cars. It's quite surprising that the Police have taken an interest; normally they can't be bothered with this sort of thing as they're too busy counting up the gatso revenue.
Hi
I am wondering if your car has been cloned,
what say you.
Person a has damage to their car.

Person b (their mate usually) notes a registration of a passing car.

A report is made and bobs your uncle a bogus claim is in the process.

This could be the case - but stick it out. Did the police inspect your car ?

If not then thats a point when and I say "when" it goes to court - have your day in court - dont admit to something you haven't done.
Did the police officer look at your car, if not I sugest you take it to the police station, ask to see that officer if possible, find out how much damage was done to the other car because she /he would have a record of the damage done to the other car, then get them to look at your car and take note of the no damage, then ask if that amount of damage was done to the other car there would be more damage done to mine wouldent there and see what there answer is. because of the sound of what you have said there being quite a bit of damage to the other car there must be some sort of damage to yours, surely anybody with a little bit of common sense would recocnise
this. Hopefully!

The police woman said they don't look at cars and her answer to me was I have a Volvo too they are built like tanks so you could hit anything and not notice it. She just couldn't be bothered I have made a complaint to the police complaints committee about how it's been handled. I even told them to look at the cctv in the area something else they don't do.
