i brought a shelf in argos got it home didnt like it took it back and the manager refused to refund it or offer an exchange. are they entitled to do this if not then what piece of law can i quote at them to take it back, thanks

You are entitled to a refund if the item is faulty or not suitable for the purpose. Argos normally allow a refund within about a fortnight, although they have no legal obligation to do so. It might be worth asking them why the returns policy did not apply in that case.
