if your 17 yr old is still in education, then yes you have to pay for her upkeep,as for the other bills,im not sure, but you would be some sort of ******* if you dident
you need to get a solicitor and quick!
have you thought about selling the house?
Dunno what norman said to get blanked but I'd disagree, Yes, if you're 17 year old is still in education, then I suppose you have to contribute for them, but as regards household bills, I'd personally find it a bit of a liberty to expect me to pay - or contribute - towards them. I mean, it isn't as if they are young kids are they.
Child support law means that you are liable up until age 19 . If she claims Income support or Job seekers allowance expect a letter as she is obliged to complete the form
If the mortgage is in both names, you and your wife are both liable. I believe that gas and electric liabilities depend on whose name is on the bill.

When my son left his wife and daughter (who was 20) he was still expected to pay all the bills, as he had originally been paying. His wife was not working. It took some time to negotiate, but eventually the mortgage and property Deed was transferred to his wife and daughter. He agreed to forego all equity in the house in return for no strings.
