Data Protection Act
When making an application for information under the above act, do I have to give a reason for my request, or is it enough that I have made it?
The info I have asked for is for one reason, but, depending on what it reveals, something else may follow.

DP is personal and you can only ask information about yourself and not Mrs Bloggs. and you pay
BUT the Freedom of Information Act may help. The org has to be a govt department (*there are LOTS around) and then you can ask for anything they have so long it is NOT of a personal nature
So for COuncils, whatever, minues of planning meetings or email between Chairman and Finance director concerning over payment of expenses in 2005.
Anything at all.

Thanks, Peter. I thought that was the case. Basically, I have been refused a job on medical grounds, which I believe relate to my disability. I only want the info to persue a pension claim against previous employers, but if this company is going to get sh**ty with me, then I may take legal advice ref a claim for discrimination under the act.
