What can you expect if you refuse to give your details to a dog warden / council enforcement person? He wanted to give me a ticket for "Dogs on Leads (Exeter) Order" Many thanks. He has my details now but I feel bad and am kicking myself for giving them to him. I am going to appeal as my dog only just stepped out of my work car park literally half a metre onto the pavement. Is there anything I can do?

Not sure about the penalty for "failure to supply details to Dog Warden" but wouldn't that information (or at least a substantial part i.e. surname and address) be on your dog's ID tag?

Although a penalty for a half-metre transgression may seem harsh, you are in breach of the Order...

"Failing to keep a dog on a lead on roads, pavements, footpaths and designated parks"

Owners who neglect [this duty] will be issued with a fixed penalty notice and fine of 75.

The maximum fine on prosecution for offences under the Dog Control Orders is currently set at 1000 [plus court costs].

In no way should my reproduction of the above text be taken as any sort of judgement by me of your actions.
They would have found you through your car registration number.

Anybody can get that information from DVLA for a very small fee if they have good reason. And you can be sure the Council would get it.

Thanks Ethel and Kempie,
Yes dog has collar and tag, but he was asking me. My dog would not have let him near her tag. She is not good with strangers epecially large males.
I have read the dogs order thanks. I will appeal as I feel he acted a little harshly. Like waiting outside someones house to see if the dog strays onto the pavement while they are going from the front door to the car.

Well i was just followed by 2 council workers when walking my dog. Followed me in there van but dog was on lead and not in the no dog feild. They followed me all way down to next dog park and when i let off lead she had a poo that i picked up and put her back on lead. Next thin i know these 2 council workers popped out from behind hedge asking for my details which i politley refused. Why do u want i asked and it was because i let dog of lead for 3 min run as it was raining heavy and no other dog walkers about. I said wouldnt a polite warning be more apropiate but no they seen dog off lead and its an offence and again asked for my details to which i replyed is it for a fine?, yes they said and i was on camera and if they find out were i live they will take me to court and cost me more. I told them they better start looking cause i aint giving u anything. They then tryied following us home but they got held up at some temp traffic lights so i ran and got away lol. Looked at said sighns and they do state no dogs off lead in marked playing area, well had just been cut so were no lines. But we shall see if they find out were i live. Does anyone know if councils have sites asking if anyone knows this person?. I just think they were well out of order following me in hope id slip up, i knew they were watching when i let her off but there always dog off leads so presumed it was ok. Anyway i wish them best of luck finding me cause they got 0 information from me.
