policy on refunds in shops.

My daughter bought some jeans and about 20min later decided she did not like them. The shop pointed to a notice stating they do no give refunds only credit notes. Can they do this?

The shop are legally entitled to refuse to offer any form of refund when an article is returned for no good reason such as changing your mind (legitimate reasons for refund include "not fit for purpose" and "not as described"). They have offered a shop credit as an act of goodwill.

Yes they can. In fact they do not even have to give credit notes.

The law requires that a refund must be given if the goods are faulty, not as described or not of satisfactory quality.

Buyers' remorse does not entitle the buyer to a refund, credit note or exchange.
