leasing a car instead of buying one

Can anyone explain to me what the pros/cons of car leasing are?
I'm a private car owner who does about 15,000 miles a year.
I've never considered a leasing arrangement until recently, when I heard an interesting program on Radio4 which seemed to be suggesting that most consumers should consider leasing.

I always thought the only beenfit was really to business users because you get a percentage of the VAT back and the maintenance element of the lease is tax deductable.
