Yesterday I signed a car dealers order/contract for a new vehicle. The car wont be at the dealership for another 10 days. At the time of signing I wasn't sure whether I wanted finance or not so a '?' was written on the form in this space. I gave a 500 deposit using a credit card, do I have any rights of cancellation? Can I get my deposit back?
As far as I am aware I'm not committed to any finance arrangement. The dealer and I have left that issue to be decided at time of payment/collection, in other words it would appear I have the option of whether to pay for the car outright or arrange a finance agreement. My main concern is with cancelling the order for the vehicle and recovery of my deposit. In this instance, what are my rights? Or is it at the discretion of the dealership?
Thanks
Dan
Without seeing the contract you have signed it is impossible to say - but you have no legal rights to a refund of the deposit. This applies with distance selling, or signing contracts in your own home in some circumstances, only.
However, the dealer may have a cooling off period in the terms and conditions.
The sooner you cancel, the more likely you are to get a refund.
