can i be fined for a 17 year old stealing beer? the police were called and he was arrested, but my boss has now told me that he will be done because i let an under aged steal beer?

If you did actually 'let him steal' it, then I'd say the answer is yes.

If you genuinely tried to stop him, then unlikely.

Without knowing where you work or the nature of the premises, it is possible that, if the police wished to prove that, by your inaction or conduct, you were responsible for "delivering" the alcohol, you could be prosecuted . Unlikely though.
