I received a letter from a debt collection agency for a Gas bill from 1997. Can they pursue this? The debt was sold from the Gas company in April 2007?
Thanks

The time limit for civil debt is six years since the last date that you acknowledged it, However, I believe there are special rules for fuel suppliers which prevent them claiming unpaid bils over a certain time limit which is much less than that (could be two years). Check with your gas supplier or the CAB who will be able to give you a definitive answer.
