Hernia op / signed off

I recently had a hernia op, and the doctor signed me off for three weeks.
Fortunately I can work from home, but being here alone is driving me round the twist.
If I go back to work, will I be insured in the event of an accident, or will my insurer refuse to pay out because I'm supposed to be signed off and not driving to work?

I would imagine work wouldn't want you there if you are supposed to be off recouperating. I had a double hernia op and snip at the same time and was told not todo anything - if you split your stitches or re rupture your hernia repair, you could be in big trouble and even longer off work.

Watch those DVD's you always wanted to watch. Go for light walks around the block, read that book you've always wanted to watch but under no circumstances watch daytime TV especially Jeremy Kyle or Loose Women - your mental health will suffer much more if you watch these than your physical health will if you go back to work early.

I would be very surprised if your company let you back for ins purposes. You would struggle to win a legal battle if you were supposed to signed off and was in work against doctors advice. As regard driving - you need to ask your doctor if you are fit to drive - it's not really your decision. He'll prob say no if it's only been a few days since your op. Again if you were in an accident, you'd have more complications if you damaged your repaired hernia or split your stitches.

I'd take the docs advice and stay at home until he says so - you'll feel much better for it.

:)

Not only that, I'll be skint if I donate any more money to the NSPCC, RSPCA, RNLA, RSPB, Oxfam, Ocean Finance or Carol bleeding Voderman......

I actually had the op on 4th July, so I am well recovered and can drive no problem. My work have no problem with me returning (my job is a desk job), I just need to know if I am covered.
Your employer would be putting themselves in a difficult position if they let you return to work without being passed as fit to return by a doctor. I don't know what the legal point is, but every employer I know, will not let anyone return to work without a doctor's say so.

I have spoken with my Financial Director and she says I wouldn't be insured at work anyway. Need to see the Doc asap and a note from him.

Thanks for your input anyway guys.
From the outside your op may seem healed but it takes a few weeks for your insides to recover. My stupid son started work after 4 weeks.......he did internal damage and had to have the operation redone.
why dont you go for a gentle walk , visit the libarary(discover books again) go to the cinema, bit of light housework/gardening etc etc TAKE CARE...you will soon be back at work
