security codes from main dealers
hi i am an auto locksmith and i have all the equipment to code keys into cars.
the problem im having is on some vechicle you need a security code to access the ecu to enable you to code the keys in.
im just wondering does any one know the legal position on the main dealers releasing the codes ,i have had a problem with renault and ford ,i have rung them on various occasions and some days they say bring in proof of ownership etc and will release the codes for a samll fee,
but yet on another day they wont release anything at all saying id have to take the car into them to get the key coded.
obviously they dont want to loose the work ,but can anyone tell me what the legal position is on release of these codes.
many thanks martin
