The law changes next month. When do you intend to do this? By the way, the pub will not have any permissions at the moment which will legalise this. Is the event being held for charity or to earn you some money?
stargate, sorry to hijack your question, but can I ask loonytunes how the law changes next month? I am involved in a school Friends organisation, and we have a gaming licence for our various raffles and draws - do you know if the changes are something we should be aware of? Thanks
Bit difficult to answer in brief but the Gambling Act 2005 is due to be enacted in full on 1st September. So all existing permissions will be coming to an end although some will extend until they expire even if after 01/09/07. You do not have a gaming licence for lotteries, you have a Society Registration with your local authority and there are transitional arrangements in place about these. "Gaming" is the term relating to machines and bingo. Lotteries or raffles are purely about chance winning so are dealt with separately. Speak to your local council licensing section about the issues involved.
