The recent change in law has evidently had a dramatic effect on sperm donors coming forward. What I understand of the new legislation, the only change is when the child reaches 18 he or she IF HE WISHES can have access to the sperm donors name. The address (even if still current) is not forwarded and given the fact these kids will be wanted (i.e through fertility treatment) and not the result of a cheap fumble in the back of a Renault Clio, will they really bother to try and make contact with the fathers??

Further, at 18 years old there is no financial commitment on the father (protected by law as well).

My questions.

1) Would the women here be hurt/annoyed/threatened if an 18 year old knocked on your door and said "Your husband is my father", if you knew it was the result of masturbation in a clinic?

2) Would any men here consider donating sperm

3) I think I would be a suitable donor. Tall dark, inteligent, healthy, single, not great looking, but passable. Where do I start my quest?

I'm presuming this question is for the menfolk of AB, but can I just point out that if my husband/ partner hadn't already told me he'd been a sperm doner i'd be more annoyed at that- the not telling.
A lot of men I know were aghast at the thought of being traceable, if you want to go for it, go for it, I think the max age is 40? or 45??
Personally I think that if you can't have kids it's for a reason. I can't understand people who crave for kids I can't think of anything worse lol.

I would much rather do what I want, when I want. Ah it's great to be selfish.
Is a man actually told every time his sperm is used for fertility treatment? I was only wondering this the other day..

Of course I know that not every sperm can be used but can you picture a blokes face when maybe 15 people knock on his door saying ''Hello daddy''.

I think Pippster only a maximum of ten tadpoles can go forth and unite with an egg. These are also geographically spread to avoid the chances of in breeding later on.
but with everyone travelling and moving around through life more and more nowadays it would be hard to minimise siblings meeting without knowing.
Perhaps using just one mans sperm per family wishing for IVF would be the better way? although its difficult to know how many men donate to this sort of thing
15 a pop, ive worked out that you could earn 19,500 part time donating 5 times a day.
Hmmm..that is a difficult one isn't it redcrx?

Wardy, do you feel comfortable knowing that you will probably be a father to 10 children? this is now something all donors will have to face..and although I can see how important it is for people to know of their natural parentage it may open a huge can of worms for most.
some part time job that eh lol

I can truthfully say, it would not bother me. The children will be born in to wealthy middle class families wanting to have kids, giving them a stable home. I do not envisage that many of the children would want to know anyway later on in life. Quite a different pyschology to adoption I think.

Further, will the kids no? If the mother is married there is nothing stopping the husband (i.e "non"-father) having his name on the birth certifiacte.

Further, further, it is one step closer to my utopian dream of fathering a master race.

Buy the clio have a fumble. Less scientific but lots more fun.
If the donation had never been mentioned, I might wonder why not. Apart from that fine.

1) My wife would be devastated had I not informed her of my donation.

2) Yes, but not now that I am married and have a family. I am not a w4nker any more, apparently.

3) If you give a toss and are willing to give a ..toss, contact the National Gamete Donation Trust on 0845 226 9193
