road signs covered by trees.....whos fault?

my friend missed her flight at Bristol Airport the other week as she had never driven there before and did not see the sign as it was covered by trees, drove on for a further 40 minutes before turning back and noticing one on the other side of the road........obviously she was very annoyed as she had to wait 6 hours for the next flight in an airport with two young children having been up since 4am!! She wants to complain to someone......but who??

The council responsible for that area I would imagine. The Highways Department are usually resposible for road signs.

dont they just put them up? wouldnt it be the people who maintain the trees?

I think the council are responcibly to maintain the area around the signs, but I have also seen 'motorway maintenece' doing it on motorways. Not sure really, I would ring the concil of that borough. They'll soon give you the right people!

she needs to go back and take photos for a start, ones that show the trees covering the signs and one that shows the trees branches moved, also, she needs to prove there were no previous signs that would have been an indication on how many miles off the turning she was. Then she should contact the local highqway maintenance authority and ask who is responsible . Good luck to her, but it sounds abit pointless imo

Well considering that you're supposed to check in 2and half/3 hours prior to departure, she must have been cutting it fine to begin with.

i ca\nt see her driving all the way to Bristol to take photos! hahahah....she'd get lost again! she said there was signs before (that she was following) and then they stopped .....

Why do people always look for someone else to blame? She missed the signs (and the whole airport? didnt she notice the planes???). It's her own fault.

you are absolutely right, and i agree with you! no she probably didnt have a map, she missed the planes (and the whole airport) and she didnt know where she was going or how long it would take her because SHES A DOZY BINT!! BUT......thats not the question i asked. All i wanted to know was who could she write to about the sign being hidden? and we've established that so i'll let her know......i laughed at her when she told me too!
