My sister got a parking ticket (breaching the Highway Code) in August. She has just remembered it and the 28 days you have to pay has just expired (it's been 29 days now..) The office is closed over the weekend, so if she phones up on Monday, what can she expect? Will it have increased as I suspect, and if so, by how much?
On the ticket itself it doesn't say about paying late, but says that if she doesn't pay, and doesn't request an appeal in court, then the police will contact her and she will go to court and the pay the 30 + 50%.
If she phones asap on Monday morning, will it be 30 still? 45? or perhaps more?
There is no offence of breaching the Highway Code. Those who park illegally receive parking fines and are given the opportunity to pay a fixed sum if they pay within the specified period. It is likely that a higher sum will now be payable as that period has passed.
Get her to date a cheque last Thurs or Fri, put it in an envelope and post it TODAY, be there for monday. The office my wife works at (Avon&Som Police) allows the time of sending to be taken rather than delivery of mail.because of backlog, But please if received later than monday there may be questions.
Thanks very much for your answers - have been helpful.
Wendilla - I know what you mean, as if I got one I'd pay straight away. But it is possible, as that's what happened. She wanted to wait a couple of weeks until she got paid so she could pay the fine. It was a case for her of out of sight, out of mind.
