I have just been filling in an application form for my first provisional driving license. To prove my identity, I was given the options of either giving my Digital UK Passport Number - for the DVLA to check - or sending in certain documents such as a normal passport, or birth certificate etc. I chose to give my Digital Passport Number, which claims to verify my identity, so I needn't send any documents in. I must also send in a photograph, however i don't know whether I need to get my photo signed by a professional, etc, to prove who I am, or whether they can verify both my identity, and my photograph, from the Digital Passport Number I have given? I just wondered if anybody knew and could let me know as I hope to get it sent off asap, and hope I get the application right first time!
Also, I have just read that Driving Licenses have new security features on them including a new black and white photo - will that be the case with provisional's or just a full driving license? Just out of interest!
They will compare the photo with the one on your passport.
It's all very big brother. According to the DVLA website:
"With the exception of a full valid current UK or EC/EEA passport or a Home Office issued travel document, youll need to have your photograph certified."
As your id is your passport, you will not need it certified.
Laura, most of the main post offices have a checking service that confirms your form is filled out correctly and don't need a signature on the photo. I've just used it with my daughter and there was no problem. Cheers, Andy
If you go to www.postoffice.co.uk and select driving license you'll get all the details - nearest post office etc. This service costs 4 on top of the licence fee. Andy
