Manufacture fault
I bought a leather suite just over a year ago, but have only just noticed a fault with it which is more of a manufacturing fault.... Can I still take it back or is it too late as the 12months hase passed

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You can ask for the retailer to come and fix it. 12 month guarantees are generally offered by most shops, but the Sale of Goods Act can protect you for longer than that, up to 6 years depending on the circumstances.
All goods sold should be 'of satisfactory quality' which specifically includes durability, and also takes cost into account. Assuming you paid more than �50 for it, I would think you have a strong argument for the retailer to fix it for you.
I would write to the retailer, mention the Sale of Goods Act, and ask them to repair it under said act. If they try to worm their way out of it, mention the small claims court.

The shop doesn't have the choice on whether to deal with you or not - the law is the law.
It is up to you to prove that the fault was there at the time of purchase once 6 months has passed, but if as you say this is a manufacturing fault, any competent 'expert' would agree with you.
I maintain that you should contact the store and ask them to sort it out. I have done this successfully myself with Dell and House of Fraser with goods out of the 12 month guarantee. They both tried to deny responsibility at first but the law is on your side.
