Are there benefits that flow from being spliced with someone of the same sex?

I know that there are drawbacks, no ability to divorce for example but is it likely that such unions will be arranged in order to get a former spouse off one's back?

Invasion of privacy ?

Can market research companies contact people registered with the TPS?

Of course they can 'divorce'. A same sex civil partnership has already 'divorced'.

The benefits of a civil ceremony include:
partner's right to pension on death;
partner's right to make the same decisions in cases of ill health / mental incapacity / funeral arrangements as a spouse; the same rights to property as a spouse;
the official recognition of a 'married' status.

It would be foolish to go through all this just to get rid of an ex.

Thanks In a Pickle.
I read that the very first pair to go through a CC (perhaps i was just in my area?), fell out but found there was no way of dissolving the reltionship. No doubt this has been clarified and I missed seeing it.
