Bus Lane Penalty Charge Notice

Hi, I recieved a penalty charge notice last Thursday for driving in the bus lane. It was recorded on a CCTV camera and photos of the event were sent to me this weekend. The pictures show that I entered the bus lane for 3 to 4 seconds ( about six phots sent of the camera footage) and then returned to the normal car driving lane. I can only assume that a vehicle in front of me was turning right into the retail park so instead of stopping behind the vehicle while it waited for a break in the trafic, I went around it to the left and so entered the bus lane.
My question is - is this worth appealing against or are you not allowed to enter the bus lane even to undertake a car turning right?

You have no grounds for appeal:

Only specified vehicles (buses, taxis i.e. Hackney Carriages, emergency services and cyclists) may enter a bus lane during operating hours. Vehicles not in those categories will be liable for a Penalty Charge Notice if they enter a bus lane.

I would appeal on the grounds of common sense, but ask for the full photos, the ones you have been sent may have been cropped so as not to show the obstruction that you maneouvered around. If there was no vehicle turning you, it would seem that you were indeed in the wrong. Good luck.

Pointless appealing. You cannot enter a bus lane during the operational hours.

Very silly thing to do, Buses also have camera's fitted in on them recording all traffic and the footage can also be used to issue a fine. You will have to pay the fine as it's not worth appealing. If you want to enter a Bus lane next time catch a Bus.

you cant win that one

adopt the policy of, ok less than five percent of traffic has exclusive access to fifty percent of the road, so, absolutely never give way or let a bus out of the bus lane into your part of the road

ive already been needlessly delayed by these restrictions

Thanks for all of your advice - I will appeal but now realise the chances of success are very slim so the rejection will be not feel bad!!:-)

Appeal letters are usually always rejected but at least you've said your piece. They want to get your money.
