After many years of being hard of heariing my motherinlaw decided to look into having hearing aids fitted. She then had a home visit from a gentleman who works for a company that supplies hearing aids, he advised her that she needed one for each ear.
This has cost her approx 1,700, but after 2/3 weeks of wearing them she finds that she just cannot get on with them. Are items like this returnable, if so would she be entitled to some kind of a refund

why dosen't she ask the company? Surely they'll be able to tell her more definatively than any ones opinion on here
I don't think she would be entitled to a refund just because she cannot get on with the hearing aids.If they were faulty then it would be a different matter.
Most hearing aid suppliers will refund most of the money within the first month. They usually charge a fee of about 150 to cover their costs. Many people do find it difficult in the first few weeks, and she should contact the hearing aid audiologist to see if adjustments are required. There is a legal requirement for your mother in law to be contacted to see how she is getting on, and this must be done within 6 weeks of the fitting date.
You do not say why she does not get on with her aids - if they are uncomfortable they can be remade. If she does not like the sound then they can be adjusted. Your mother in law will need lots of help and encouragement in the early stages - so why not arrange to be there for the follow up call.
