My parents who are pensioners have received letters from a bailiff firm for my brother who does not live with them none of the family have any contact with him so dont know his address my parents wrote to the bailiffs stating he did not live there and giving last address they had for him and his mobile phone number they also said (on advice from legal helpline) that any further letters would be classed as harassment they sent it recorded delivery and the bailiffs did receive it , despite this they received another letter saying that they will be calling at anytime from now onwards to remove goods. My parents are now in a terrible state worried sick and affraid of answering the door I am thinking that they should go and see a solicitor as soon as poss but does anyone have any advice on what to do if they turn up in the meantime any help would be greatly appreciated

Advise your parents to go and visit the Citizens Advice Bureau ASAP and take along the letters they have received so far.In the meantime they do not have to allow the bailiffs into the property so their goods will not be removed.

Thanks for your answer daffy. I am hoping there wont be any hassle but if they do turn up and start pressurising my parents can they call the police or wouldnt they get involved in this kind of thing, sorry if i sound a bit dim but isnt the law usually on their side
The bailiffs have to prove to the police that the person who owes the money lives at the address they have for them, your parents can obviously prove he doesn't so the police would not allow them access to the house. They have the law on their side in this so tell them to try not to worry. It should be easily sorted out once the CAB get involved.

Thank you daffy for your help its very much appriciated
They can only come in the house "peacefully" invited or walk through an unlocked door or window. so keep them locked. they will say anything to get into the house you can speak to them through an upstairs window. once they have been in they can forcibly regain entry. iff they turn up and refuse to leave call the police.Hope that helps
Get proper advice asap, but in the meantime be aware that one of the tricks they use is to step into the house as soon as the door is opened, so make sure your parents don;t give them the chance. Good luck.
