Should my partner tell his employer of his conviction?

Hi, my partner works for a credit card company call centre within the fraud department. He has never had a criminal record or any problems up until this week.

He has just been disqualified from driving for six month for failing to stop and stupidly he said his car had been stolen and claimed on his third party fire and theft policy. He has also been found guilty of fraud because of this. Would he have a duty to tell his employer about this due to the nature of his job. I am worried about him losing his job and obviously the affects on our mortgage etc.

its worrying we have liars working for the bank's fraud department.

He should tell them, and may lose his job. Honesty is the best policy. Unfortunately he should have thought of the consequences. I hope they are easy on him

If he doesn't tell them and they find out they will sack him which will make it harder for him to get another job as he wouldn't exactly get a glowing reference. He would probably be better off leaving and getting a job that does not require a record check.

A relative of mine is one of the founder members of Experian, and I would humbly suggest that your partner owns up to his employers. I'm not judging your partners actions, but when this information is discovered - which it will be - it would go better for him if he owned up now, and his honesty could save him his job.
