Cats

i live in a terraced house with and have young children who are unable to play in the backyard due to cats fowling the area every night. i'v tried all the usual remedies - pepper dust etc but to no avail.

i'v complained to the local council but they say there's nothing they can do (if it was a dog there would be no problem as action could be taken against the owners)

i'v approached the cat owners in the area but none are interested and continue to "put the cat out" at night.

i have the means to get rid of the problem permanently by killing the cats as a last resort but what law would i be committing? if i got caught! (i don't want to do this but feel that i'm left no option)

thanks for that tufty it sounds like a really good compromise.
i'd much rather not kill the cats so this is the plan for me and like paulos said (being sarcastic i think lol) the kids will enjoy it too.
the cats will probably get a better home out of it too, where they won't be allowed to roam at night.

It is actually considered a better home if the cat is allowed free access to outside ~ it is in their nature to roam.

A penned in cat is an unhappy cat.

Sounds a bit like a wind up, this post.

Cats bury their faeces, unlike dogs. So, if as you say, there are faeces in the backyard these are probably not from cats. Maybe foxes.

But, all your comments on here about killing the cats or kidnapping them make it sound like a wind up.

What a load of rubbish. My cats have access to their catflaps at all times, day or night. That doesn't make us irresponsible cat owners, and they've never caused a problem for any of our neighbours.

Take Pippa's advice and just get on with it.

i would suggest that you kill the cats on the grounds of health and safety toward your children. As for the un-cooperative owners when thier cats don't return home they will assume that they have been killed by traffic and will take care not to let future pets out at night.
i recommend rat poison !!!

I had a problem with cat s**@ and lost my baby through it. I do understand that cats are pets and should not be killed, but by these cats fowling my garden i lost my baby. So i am sorry if people feel so strongly about their cats but they should also take into consideration these two young HUMAN children who need to play safely in their garden.

If a human or dog came into a garden and crapped all over it the human would be prosecuted and so would the dogs owners so why should a cat be any different.

Cat s@@t and irresponsible cat owners killed my unborn child (if he hadn't died he would have been blind). I had cleaned the muck up with rubber gloves on but the germs had gotten into the soil.

So beware - look after your children - they are most important.
