There is no connection between signing the papers for a mortgage and getting the keys. These come when you pay over the money and complete the purchase. The mortgage, of course, will help towards this but is only a stage in the procedure.

could be yonks, ask your estate agent to chase the chain and the solicitors weekly at a minimum, need survey, then mortgage offer, local authority searches first. keep in touch and annoy everyone to get it moving fr yu

probably in my experience (which isnt vast) it can take six months or longer. When i moved, i signed the papers for the mortgage before we'd looked at houses, in order th have a mortgage offer with which to strengthen our position when putting in an offer. We saw the mortgage advisor in november and moved in june the next year and i dont think this was unusual

If completion of your house purchase is taking place on Wednesday then that is when you will get the keys

What are you signing...exchange or completion of contract?

Only on completion are the keys handed over, as seatrout says.

suzy your not being specific. You could be signing the initial contracts which doenst mean exchange. If you ARE exhanging final contracts then it could be a matter of days. You will only get the keys when funds have been transferred and received by the seller.
