I have in the last week received three letters from mobile phone companies addressed to me, but the wrong first name, but correct surname and address. They all state that mobile phone accounts have been opened up and list bank details from which a direct debit will be taken. The bank details are not mine. It would seem that someone is using my address and part of my name but not my bank details. What are they getting from this action? I have obviously told all three companies what has happened and the accounts have been closed.
They would cancel the payments after one month (if indeed they are real bank accounts) and then the operator would keep writing to your address to try and recover the money.
I have a very similar problem. Unfortunately, O2 have done nothing about it despite repeatedly telling them for the last 3 months and informing the police. They have now put the matter in the hands of a debt collection agency.
