Does an Ex Wife have a claim to your Will

I have been paying a small monthly amount in Maintenance to an Ex-Wife under a Court Order for 20 years.

I have always assumed that on death of either of us that is the end of it.

Completing a will lately there was a statement that anyone financially dependent on me now should be provided for in the Will. If you do not do so they can make a claim against the estate.

Any opinions please

As you have an order in force it will state that her Inheritiance Act claims have been dismissed.

If they have not she will still be able to claim against the estate as you have been continually maintaining her.

I would take the order to a Solicitors to check.

Thanks Ethel.
I have looked at the Court Order and although I was not aware it does say exactly that regarding Inheritance Tax.

Now I know I dont have to leave her anything by law I will do so and feel better about it..
Excellent. :)
