i currently work in an office and am unhappy in my work. i want to leave and become a full time mum to my 3 year old son. but do not know if i can afford to do it. does anybody know what benefits/allowances i would be entitled to if i did this. e.g. how much would i receive in tax credits? i would appreciate any advice, thankyou.

My daughter is a single parent and full time mum at the minute. I think single parents with one child get about 104 a week plus family allowance. She also gets rent rebate for almost all of her rent and full council tax rebate.
She can claim tax credits but they deduct them from income support so she doesnt claim them. (This makes it easier for her to sort out her money otherwise she would have x amount of income support weekly and x amount of tax credit monthly which would just add up to the same amount she is claiming now)

let us all know how you get on,
i bet there are more than ten million people who are 'unhappy in my work' in the country,
we could all give up and go on the ponce,
these tax credits you speak of? if youre not working you wont pay any tax to be able to get some back as a credit,
what you really mean is... these hand outs from the tax of responsible working people..

had u ever thought that she works now so therefore is payin tax and all she wants to do now is spend some time with her son and claim some of it back? this country give it all to the polish and that anyway. the lady was asking for advice not criticism, why didnt u just keep ur opinion to yourself. didnt you mum ever teach u if u cant say nuffin nice dont say anything at all.
and no before u think it i am not on benefits with a child trying to defend people that think they are entitled to everything they can get. i just happen to think what u said was quite rude
