Death Penalty - what thoughts?
I know we have discussed this on here before, and we have had mixed reactions. Most people apposing it said it was because there is a risk of innocent people being put to death.

So, although reading what she said seems shocking, I would want the same myself.
Why should they have the priviledge of life?

I agree with the death penalty but only for more than one murder, either a double murder, or if the murderer serves time and then does the same thing again or for serial killers. This eliminates the chance that a man could be innocent when put to death.
When they had the death penalty a murder was a big thing and people talked about for months but now it seems to be an every day occurance.
I also think that foreign nationals who commit serious crimes over here should be deported no matter what,no ifs or buts that they are going to be tortured on their return to their motherland, they should have thought of that in the first place, this might make them think twice before commiting crimes here. Yesterday the national newspaper stated that a foreign national is arrested every four minutes in the UK , surelt there should be more attempt to check peoples criminal record before welcoming them to come and commit crimes here. We are too soft, so are our jails.

I would have no hesitation in killing anyone who killed or raped my daughters. However, the death penalty is a broad brush and you can't take the risk that even one innocent person is hanged.
Let these people do hard time - no suicide watch (we are well rid of Shipman and Fred West, and if only Ian Huntley would sort himself out). Put them in with hardcore criminals so they know what fear and intimidation are like from the other side.

Some of you say that the Death Penalty is not an effective deterrant. Maybe not, but we certainly do need an effective deterrant, something which will put the fear of God into these hooligans.
What was wrong with Hard Labour? The prospect of spending a few years on the moor breaking rocks might make them think.
And for minor offenders, the jack-the-lads who think no-end of themselves and make life hell for others, The Stocks would be ideal. Let their chums jeer at them a bit.
I can't wait to hear the condemnation from the softies out there!

so many pros and cons. It all depends on what side you sit on. If you had someone in your family killed, you would want the person killed, an outisder looking in would argue about the death penalty.
Personally, I agree to it. An eye for eye is what I believe, and though Im no bible basher, I do believe in what the bible says that "god giveth, and god taketh away" Meaning god gave life and only he should take it, not some chav scum and his mates.
I wouldnt agree to hanging or beheading but definately Electric Chair or Gas Chamber. Lethal injection is too quick and painless.
