Will my VISA Electron work in south america??

I live in the UK and have a Visa Electron. It has a Visa Plus logo on the back. Does this mean it will work in any Visa/Visa Plus ATM? I am going travelling in South America for 5 months and want to know how easy it will be to use my card over there? Anyboy got any clues/ideas?
