id cards and the government

All this fuss about them got me thinking.What information do the government aleady have about you as it is ?So im gonna list any i can think of.If you know any more add them please.
date of birth,
age
address
where you were born
mothers name
fathers name
childrens names
husband/wifes name
blood group
bank account details ( if you receive any benefit or even cheque from taxman )
national insurance number
how much you earn
where you went on holiday abroad( passport )
next of kin
any illnesses
any medication youre on ( all through medical records)
any convictions
everywhere youve ever stayed from age 18 , as long as you were legally registered on the electoral roll as you should be.

Talking of paranoia & the government having access, here's a scary tale about one of Mr O's friends.
Mr O's mate works in marine salvage and has legitimate access to explosives.
He was planning on flattening a sunken ship called The Bastedo, somewhere off the east coast, and was discussing the job on the phone with one of his work colleagues.
Two days later he was visited by armed men in grey suits. They had a transcript of his phone conversation, but they'd misheard the name of the ship and thought he'd said he was going to blow up "the bast**d".
Scary.

I agree with you Legend but although the govt. may have all the info about us, it is all in different places. One department does not necessarily communicated with another in the wonderful world of government.
One particular point of interest or puzzlement to me is the DVLA. They introduced new measures, such as the SORN declaration, to stop road tax dodgers. However, on the local radio this morning I heard that forces were out to capture number plates and find road tax dodgers.So it obviously didn't work!

I read in a paper last week that there are hundreds of thousands of people in this country who have their phone conversations eavesdropped on. That is worrying.
On the subject of ID cards, look at the governments track record of computer systems that are inadequate, i.e. Tax Credits, Child Support Agency and the passport debacle a few years ago.
You cannot mention the words "government" and "computer systems" in the same sentence without adding the word "fiasco."
Also, if DVLA are allowed to sell drivers details to all and sundry, it makes me wonder if the same would apply with ID cards......
