Aggree with Bensmum, I hope I never run over anythingbut if I did I would certainly try to find out who it belonged to, But by law you don't have to report running over a cat, I don't know why because to me a cat is just as important as a dog, maybe it stems from when we had to have a licence for a dog.
No. The reason for it is that cats are 'ferae naturae' in law. The law considers that cats cannot be trained as dogs can, so their owners are not responsible for any injury/damage done by them. As a corollary to this, motorists do not have to report it to the police if they run over a cat.
We've had many cats, and we've never managed to train them to do anything. On the other hand, it has never taken them long to get us firmly under their little paws, and do exactly as they chose.

Well the person who knocked my cat over today and killed him didn't stop. Luckily some kind ladies saw it happen and rushed him to the vet, but he could not be saved. I could not bear to have seen him on the side of the road. He was chipped a few weeks ago after he went missing and the vet called me straight away. When we stop crying, I will write a letter in my local paper to thank the kind ladies.
Our little Cheetch was only 2 and such a fantastic friend to our family and 2 other cats, who will miss him so much. Please, if anyone does knock a cat over, check with the local vet, it may be chipped and at least the owners can give him a decent burial. We bury Cheetch tomorrow, alongside my daughter's hamster who died 4 weeks ago. She is only 10 and is learning some hard lessons in life.

I found a cat rub over still alive as I picked it up it passed away in my hands I put the end of the pavement and reported it. There was no collar do they advised me to leave in case it was seen by its owner. The lad drive off after hitting it I cried I think it is awful. I have pets and if it was any of mine I wish someone would report mine so I could bury it.
