I am 17 years old and have a Saturday job. I no longer get taxed, but the tax that has already been taken off is due to be returned to me. At the end of the tax year, will this happen automatically, or will I have to keep pestering the inland revenue in order for them to do this? I've already phoned them up once and they said it'd be returned to me on my next pay slip, which hasn't happened. Any tips on what I need to do, or whether I can just wait and they'll do it? Thanks to all

In theory it should be refunded automatically. However, towards the end of March it would be prudent to write to the tax office dealing with you and advise them of your circumstances and ask whether you are entitled to a refund. This should ensure that you don't slip through the net.
