How much notice to quit?
Hi all.
Im very new to AB, and need an important question answered if poss.
I have been with my current employer since sept 2007.
Between sept and Dec 2007 they employed me via an agency, and then took me on direct in Jan 2008. But I am still waiting for a contract/job description/further particulars. I keep being fobbed off - they are always saying that there are changes being made to the contract/its taking time etc..
I have now found new employment - albeit temporary work, but office politics here are getting me down.
(Thats another story)
What I need to know is how much notice do I have to give an employer, who pays me monthly, but I have no contract with?
Thanks all.

Business Link is a Government-run website, primarily for employers primarily, but the info you need is on that page.
Although my answer is still correct for you, I actually made an error myself, quoting the notice period for an EMPLOYER. It is still one week for the statutory minimum notice to be given by an employee who has been there at least one month - it just doesn't increase further after 2 years continuous employment.

but make sure that they have paid you for that peiod first otherwise you could have worked for nothing.
I left my job in December having worked for a company for two months giving 15 minutes notice but made sure that I had received my due salary on that day. The MD was in breach of employment law anyway as there are staff there that have not had a contract even though they have worked there for more than 13 weeks (the point when a contrcat must be issued or becomes active I believe) so he didnt want to take action against me for fear of the fallout as the would have been reported to Department of Trade.
