Can someone please tell me if a younf child's witness statement would stand up in court?

The statement will be used in court, although most prosecutors would try and not to unless needed, if the statement is used, the public will not be allowed in, and if cross examination occurs, the child will do it via video-feed.

It's all for the protection of the child.
