my daughter works 5.5 hrs per week in our local pharmacy. 1x4 hr shift on saturday and 1 x 1.5 hr shift during the week. She gets 4.55 per hour, payable monthly. She has always covered shifts for people when they are ill/holiday etc. She has asked that she has one shift of 1.5 hr off in July for holiday, the first ever, and has been told 'its difficult' . She now wants to leave but has been left with the impression that she has to give one months notice, is this right? I didnt think part timers had to give notice, please advise

For the most part regulations and statutes in regard of employment apply equally to part-time and full-time employees.

Does your daughter have a Contract of employment? I suspect that due to the amount of hours she works her employers never bothred with one.If this is the case, she should tell her employers to get stuffed. 1.5 hours off in July is not much to ask.
Regardless of working hours notice should be given according to length of service if there is a contract of employment, as said before if there isnt one tell them to stuff it or alternatively, give her notice at the end of this month. she will leave end of June and it will give her a month to find another job and she will get her time off in July :)
Kempie's advice is correct.
Teak doesn't know what he is talking about - a contract of employment exists irrespective of whether your daughter has a piece of paper or not.
