Poll Tax Question
My wife, at the grand old age of 60 hasn`t worked for the last 12 years due to illness, has just had 3000.00 lump sum paid in to her bank by her private insurance group, and what we want to know is, will our poll tax be increased if our total savings exceed the allotted amount we are allowed to have without paying higher poll tax? Also, do need to inform our local council?

If you are receiving savings credit and the 3000 takes you over 6000 but to the limit of 16000 then your benefit will be reassessed.
If you get guaranteed pension credit then still inform the benefits but you can have more than 16000 and it wont affect you
But you say it was from a private insurance group - if it was a payment for a personal injury compensation claim then this will be ignored - if not then the above applies
please ring your local office to ask further
