no,not usually,but if you hadccident,they could use it as a get out,and then you could have a big bill to pay,so get it done

This question has come up many times. The only definite answer has to be "Read the policy".

However, my current policy (with Saga) specifically states, as a condition of the insurance, that "Your vehicle must have a current MOT certificate if applicable". I've still got the policy document for my previous insurance (with Kwik-Fit) and that states "Your vehicle must be covered by a valid Department of Transport test (MOT) certificate if you need one by law"

Despite Norman's assurance, I'd be very surprised if many (or even any) policies exist which don't have similar clauses.

Insurance is not invalidated in this case or every prosecution for no mot would be accompanied by one for no insurance. However as already stated the absence of MOT would almost certainly be used by the insurer as a reason to not pay out.

No it doesn't.

As I've posted countless times, the only issue you may have is if you have an accident, and an item that would have been picked up as dangerous or a fail on the MOT causes the accident - ie bald tyres, warped/insufficient brakes.

The Ombudsman will not accept avoidance of a claim on the basis of no MOT unless the above paragraph applies to a claim.

In the event of a total loss or theft claim, you may be looking at a reduction of the pre-incident value to reflect on the lack of a ticket.
