Care homes and sale of property

My wifes 88 year old aunty has recently gone into a care home as a non-EMI resident we need to sell her property to pay for her care, she has asked us to do this.
Can we legally do this ?

Consult a Solicitor as you will need to obtain a Summary Application/Power of Attorney to allow you or your wife to do this.
If she is mentally competent (& I assume she is as she has asked you to sell the house for her) she can sign the documents herself & you do not then need a power of attorney.

However, it would be a good idea to get a Lasting Power of Attorney anyway in case she becomes mentally incompetent later on.
