My friend was divorced a couple of years ago and the proceeds of the house is to be divided equally. The wife still lives in the house and wants to stay - even though it has been on the market for 18 months. My friend (actually through stupidity) is now penniless and on benefits. His wife would buy him out but for a ridiculous sum. An offer was made on the house recently but she rejected it. Is there anything legally he can do?

I may be over simplifying here, but surely if the proceeds of the house are to be split equally, then surely your friend should have a say in any offers made, and more importantly, declined. It shouldn't just be down to her.

If what you say is true, then the wife is clearly abusing the judgement made, and on that basis I would say there is something legally that can be done.
