taking legal action against a vet

9 years ago, our dog died at our local Veterinary Surgery in the UK. There were circumstances surrounding his death that were very suspicious and have never been explained. My husband and I were devastated and received no communication from the Vet at all. It has deeply affected my husband, and nearly destroyed our marriage! Now I feel I want answers, and only feel able after all this time to cope with asking the questions. Does anyone know how long after a pet's death one can take legal action against a Vet?

I'm very sorry but the statutory time limit for bringing an action for professional negligence is 6 years, so you are far too late.

Get a grip, it has been 9 years and it was a flaming dog.

Yes I know that losing a pet can be very upsetting and distressing, I would be gutted if my cat died - but to be this upset 9 years is way over the top.

People lose members of their family and deal with it better than this. To get to the point where you nearly destroyed your marriage for the sake of a dog is quite frankly ridiculous. Have you considered counselling?

there is nothing stopping you asking the vet questions now you feel you can cope with it, but that dosent mean you need a legal route. Why not just write a letter, or go in?
however, of course in the intervening years the vet could hav moved on, and i doubt they will keep records that long, or to be frank even remember.

Thank you, Ethel and bedknobs, for at least managing to answer my question politely. I didn't post the question in order to suffer abuse, such as that received from the so-called Gok Wan, who perhaps ought to consider a few lessons in good manners. If he cannot restrain himself, then perhaps he shouldn't be answering questions on the answerbank.
