Can they take money from me?
Hi everyone, when I started work a year and a half ago, I was taken on as a seasonal worker. However, after Christmas that year, I didn't get laid off and have stayed ever since. Then about 6 months ago a girl left and I took on her hours, and signed a whole new contract, which didn't mention me being seasonal anymore.
Tonight my manager told me that apparently I have never officially been taken off seasonal and because of that, I have now taken way too much holiday than what I actually am allowed, so the company can now ask for all the overpaid holiday money! However, a couple of months ago, I was asked to use up and holiday I had left, and just leave a week for after Christmas, so I rang personnel, and asked how many hours I had to use up. they informed me I had about 80 hours, so I booked lots of shifts off. So, can they really take money back from me, or do I have a right to appeal, because I only took the hours they told me I had! I am so upset and worried because it's near Christmas! Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.
