MOTs cannot be backdated and computerisation of the system allows the authorities to instantly check whether an MOT pass exists for a vehicle where one is required, as you have found to your cost. Get your car MOTed legitimately (bear in mind that legally you may only drive your un-MOTed car to a pre-arranged MOT test) and take the pass "certificate" to the police station with the rest of your documents.
Driving with no MOT can be dealt with by Fixed Penalty of 60 or you could receive a summons to attend court where a similar level of fine could be imposed but with costs and victim surcharge which would increase the amount payable by around 50.
It is very wrong of you to ask your friends to give you a back dated MOT - as already explained, it is impossible to do, and you are not much of a friend expecting them to break the law and risk their MOT status to bail you out.
The penalties have been very well explained by Kempie.
daniella, the insurance is not invalidated or every no mot offence would become a no insurance offence too. The insurer would certainly use the no mot situation as a way of reducing or removing any potential payout in the event of an accident.
kempie + ethel - good advice. yeah i spoke to my friends today and they said they could not do it but they used to be able to do it. anyways it was a last option for me and i normaly do things legal. i got myself a new legal mot today with todays date on it thismorning. i produced my licence and new mot with the old mot thisafternoon. they said i will NOT recieve points as it is obviously a genuine mistake that i forgot to renew the mot but i am very likely to get a fine. thanks for your answers.
