If voluntary redundancy is offered is there any point in asking employer to change it to compulsory. If person is willing to leave company, does compulsory redundancy offer any difference in benefits once an individual is out of work; ie jobseekers' allowance, contribution to mortgage payments etc? Or do both types of redundancy offer exactly the same benefits?

If voluntary I think it affects entitlement to JSA.
Also if it's voluntary and there's a good package employer doesn't need to give contractual notice if it's VR.
May also affect insurance benfits such a smortgage protection, although you'd need to check that with the insurer
You should check the terms of the mortgage protection policy, but I would be most surprised if there is any policy that offers a payout to a person volunteering for redundancy.
