Hi, My Morphy Richards vacuum cleaner broke down in July 2007 and I was sent a replacement. December 2008 the vacuum cleaner has broken down again my wife rang Morphy Richards and told her the Guarantee had run out. I later found the manual for the cleaner on it it says 2 years Guarantee. So will my Guarantee start when I received the replacement in July 2007 or when I originally purchased the item (can not remember the date) If it was July 2007 I still have another 6 months Guarantee. Thank you

Your guarantee starts from the original date of purchase. The replacement must of course be fit for purpose but as you have had it since July 2007 I think MR have discharged their responsibility.

sandmaster is correct - the replacement does not enhance your original contract, which was a working cleaner with a two year guarantee from the date of purchase
Don't worry too much about the guarantee, have a look at the sales of goods act and go back to them if suitable.

If you can prove there is an inherent fault within the first six years then you will again be entitled to a replacement or fix. If this is too expensive they should offer you a percentage of the original price (accounting for the use you have had).
